Dining & Groceries

If you are an organised person (like me) you might like to order your food shopping to be delivered soon after your arrival. It could save you the effort of packing and more importantly you won't be wasting your valuable time shopping for groceries. Our modern kitchen is a perfect place for creating a quick meal or making a special Sunday roast served in our beautiful dining room. Groceries can be ordered for delivery to the Cottage from the following places.

If you do prefer to shop after your arrival there are plenty of supermarkets nearby. Alnwick has Sainsburys, Morrison's, Co-op, Iceland and Lidl. While Morpeth has Marks and Spencer, Morrison's, Lidl and Iceland. Both towns are within ten minutes drive. We would also recommend the Sunday Market at Amble Harbour, especially for the fresh fish, meat and vegetables. If you don't want to go that far afield there is a general store (with Post Office) just a few minutes walk away.

Eating Out
The benefit of a self catering Cottage is that it's like having a home away from home. However, you probably want to eat out while you're staying at the Cottage, after all it is your break! You can find places we recommend for everything from a quick lunch to a formal restaurant meal for that special occasion below. These are all places that we know and love to visit ourselves, it wouldn't be right recommending somewhere we don't love eating at!

Northumberland Arms

Just a short stroll from the Cottage is the Northumberland Arms, a warm country pub and restaurant offering good quality food and a friendly atmosphere. As the Cottage's local pub, this is a lovely place to stop by and enjoy a drink.

There is a charming Cafe just the other side of the River Coquet, just a minute's walk from your front door. There is also a Fish & Chips van that comes to the Village every Thursday 4.30pm to 7pm outside the Village Hall.

Anglers Arms www.anglersarms.com (4.5miles)
The Anglers Arms serve traditional bar meals and also have an a la carte menu served in their restaurant... a train carriage! There are usually special offers if you order meals in the bar before 6pm. Beware though, the 'petite' grill is delicious but anything but petite!

Cook and Barker
 www.cookandbarkerinn.co.uk (3.5 miles)
The Cook and Barker's restaurant is the local restaurant to go for that special occasion. While they do offer bar meals it's their restaurant that offers a lovely atmosphere and exceptional food. They usually offer special deals for 2 people dining from a Sunday to Tuesday, so it is well worth contacting them to check their latest offers.

The Oak Inn www.oak-inn.co.uk (4.3 miles)
Located close to the A1, the Oak Inn serves a carvery on a Sunday and also offer take away food.

Embleton Hall www.embletonhall.com (4.6 miles)
Located in the popular village of Longframlington, Embleton Hall is another great place to go for a special occasion meal.

Our Guide inside the cottage contains much more information about our favourite places to eat and shop, along with how to get there.
